COMPOSITION OF NHRC
A chairperson and seven other members make up the National Human Rights Commission. Three of the seven members are ex-officio members, and the remaining four are appointed by the President based on the recommendations of a Selection Committee. The Prime Minister, who chairs the Committee, is joined by the Union Home Minister, the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and the Leaders of the Opposition in both Houses of Parliament.
The National Human Rights Commission comprises of following executives:
1. A Chairperson retired Chief Justice of India.
2. One Member who is, or has been, a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
3. One Member who is, or has been, the Chief Justice of a High Court.
4. Two Members to be appointed from among persons having knowledge of, or practical experience in, matters relating to human rights.
Additionally the Chairpersons of four National Commissions (Minorities, SC, ST and Women) to serve as ex officio members.
