QUALIFICATIONS OF THE CHIEF MINISTER
The Chief Minister's office is not specified in the Constitution, however it is assumed that he must be a member of the Legislative Assembly. It should be emphasised that the appointment of non-members as Chief Ministers is not prohibited by the Constitution. People who were not members of the State Legislature have been appointed as Chief Ministers on a number of occasions. There have even been cases where leaders who were defeated in elections were appointed as Chief Ministers. He must, however, become a member of the State Legislature within six months, much like the other members of the Council of Ministers, or he would lose his position as Chief Minister.
