TERM OF OFFICE
According to Article 56 of the Indian Constitution, the President will serve for a period of five years from the moment he assumes office. He may resign from his position by writing to the Vice-President of India. Nonetheless, despite announcing his resignation, he will remain in office until his successor takes over. And, before he leaves office, an election should be held to fill the vacancy.
Article 61 outlines the process through which he can be impeached for violating the Constitution. In the event that the President's office becomes vacant due to his death, resignation, impeachment, or other reasons, the Vice-President serves as his replacement. Such a vacancy should be filled by an election held within six months of his position being vacant.
